One of North America’s largest Citizen Science programs, Project FeederWatch, starts Saturday, November 10 th.

Participants of this winter long, joint program of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Bird Studies Canada conduct periodic counts of the bird species they see at their feeders. The data is submitted online and helps scientists track global bird distribution and abundance trends. The 2019-2019 count period runs from November 10th to April 5th.

This is an activity that will appeal to bird lovers of all skill levels and backgrounds including children, families, individuals, classrooms, retired persons, youth groups, nature centers, and bird clubs. New participants receive a kit in the mail which includes a color poster of the birds of eastern and western North America. It’s a is a great way for novice bird lovers to learn about common feeder birds. Participant fees help fund the program.
