Here is an early snapshot of the preliminary results for this years Hudson CBC.

We had record numbers this year for six species:

  • Wild Turkeys: 137
  • Bald Eagle: 3
  • Red-tailed Hawk: 12
  • Pileated Woodpecker: 34
  • White-breasted Nuthatch: 249
  • Brown Creeper: 32

At 7190 individual birds observed, the number was below the average for the last 20 years which stands at 8625 – whereas the number of species was exactly the same as the average at 57

Many species have been seen over 80% of the time in the last 74 years:

  • Ruffed Grouse, 97.3%
  • Downy Woodpecker, 98.65%
  • Hairy Woodpecker, 100%
  • Pileated Woodpecker, 82.43%
  • Blue Jay, 100%
  • Black-capped Chickadee, 100%
  • Red-breasted Nuthatch, 90.54%
  • White-breasted Nuthatch, 100%
  • Brown Creeper, 83.78%
  • European Starling, 98.65%
  • American Tree Sparrow, 97.30%
  • Dark-eyed Junco, 90.54%
  • Snow Bunting, 83.78%
  • Common Redpoll, 81.08%
  • American Goldfinch, 89.19%
  • House Sparrow, 97.30%
