Here is an early snapshot of the preliminary results for this years Hudson CBC.
We had record numbers this year for six species:
- Wild Turkeys: 137
- Bald Eagle: 3
- Red-tailed Hawk: 12
- Pileated Woodpecker: 34
- White-breasted Nuthatch: 249
- Brown Creeper: 32
At 7190 individual birds observed, the number was below the average for the last 20 years which stands at 8625 – whereas the number of species was exactly the same as the average at 57
Many species have been seen over 80% of the time in the last 74 years:
- Ruffed Grouse, 97.3%
- Downy Woodpecker, 98.65%
- Hairy Woodpecker, 100%
- Pileated Woodpecker, 82.43%
- Blue Jay, 100%
- Black-capped Chickadee, 100%
- Red-breasted Nuthatch, 90.54%
- White-breasted Nuthatch, 100%
- Brown Creeper, 83.78%
- European Starling, 98.65%
- American Tree Sparrow, 97.30%
- Dark-eyed Junco, 90.54%
- Snow Bunting, 83.78%
- Common Redpoll, 81.08%
- American Goldfinch, 89.19%
- House Sparrow, 97.30%
