Our mission: to protect birds and bird habitat while fostering an appreciation of them through conservation, observation, research, and education.

Whether you are a lifelong birder or just starting out, we welcome everyone who shares our passion for birds and the natural world. Regardless of your ethnicity, race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, ability, religion, or culture there is a place for you in our flock!

What it means to be a member

BPQ is run almost exclusively by volunteers and, as such, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that almost all of your membership fees go towards supporting our conservation efforts, including maintaining our sanctuaries, funding research and education initiatives through our grants program, and offering educational lectures and other activities. (Our weekly field trips are organized and guided by volunteers so none of your fees are spent on these popular outings.)

Because we are a member-run organization, you will have a vote in electing the directors on our board and voting on administrative matters at our Annual General Meeting.

We are a federally-registered charity, so your membership fees and donations are tax deductible under Canadian tax legislation.

Volunteering for BPQ

Our success for over a century has been thanks to the many dedicated people who believe in our mission, and who have been willing to contribute their time to support our vision.

Our volunteers do all kinds of things, be it serving as a director or officer working on policy, joining a standing committee focused on, for example, conservation or education, or performing ad hoc tasks such as guiding a field trip to share their expertise on weekly outings, joining a group to clean nest boxes or do trail clearing at one of our sanctuaries, or any of a number of other tasks that a volunteer-driven charity needs to have done.
