2nd Annual BPQ

Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC)

Introductory Event!

Morgan Arboretum

Sunday, February 11th

10 AM – 12:30 PM

All ages and birding skill levels are welcome! This is a great introduction to birding and the GBBC for novices, and an opportunity for more experienced birders to share your love of birds with many like-minded people! Come as a family, a group of friends or on your own!

Did you know that the GBBC is a global event and that each year tens of thousands of people around the world submit checklists reporting many millions of birds? The data collected during a 4-day count period every February helps scientists monitor avian population and migration trends.

Take part in our GBBC introductory event to learn about feeder birds and how you can participate in this fun citizen science initiative!

  •     Learn to identify common feeder birds.
  •     Find out about bird feeding and the array of feeders on the market.
  •     Go on a bird walk with experts and identify birds in the wild.
  •     Observe birds through one of several high-powered birding scopes
  •     Get a chance to hand-feed the Black-capped Chickadees (note: we’ve requested their cooperation, but no guarantees!)
  •     Learn all about on-line data submission to eBird, a free global database for bird observation.
  •     Warm up with some hot chocolate after the walk.

Are you already passionate about birds?

Here’s a great opportunity to share your enthusiasm with friends and family! Attend the event with a non-birding friend or relative, and help a new birder take flight! If every bird watcher inspired just one other person to watch birds, we could double the number of people who enjoy and care about not only birds, but the wild places where they are found!

We’re counting on seeing you there!
