Good news about camping at Pelee this year as I was able to get camping for the maximum allowed four nights during the migration season.  The dates are:  arrival Wednesday, May 6th and departure Sunday, May 10th.

So here are the details . . please read on if the trip interests you . . .

Camping is at Little Raccoon South which is just north of the Visitors Centre and thus in the heart of park.  Camping is only available to people who are members of groups.

Point Pelee is located near Leamington in southwestern Ontario.

Bird Protection Quebec members have camped at Pelee in May many times in the last twenty-five years or so.  In recent years the Pelee experience has been enhanced by the management of nearby Hillman Marsh for migrating shorebirds.   Please join fellow BPQers and friends for what is sure to be a memorable few days of birding and companionship.

Camping is in your own tent (tents only); there are hot showers and rest rooms, and the use of a kitchen shelter with electricity and a wood stove (firewood must be purchased on site and must not be brought in from outside the park). You look after your own cooking.

Please note that this is not a field trip.  There are no appointed leaders and people structure their own time, birding as much or as little as they wish. The group is likely to include people who know Pelee well and can give advice and make suggestions.

Cost is about $56 per person for the four nights.  This year for the first time we used the BPQ newsletter and this email forum to  ask people who were interested in going on the trip to let us know before we made the reservation. There was quite a lot of interest, and so far thirteen people have signed up for the trip.

The maximum number permitted  in group camping at Pelee is 20. If you are interested in participating, please let me know as soon as possible. If we exceed the maximum of twenty, we will keep a waiting list in case of cancellations .

If you require more information or want to reserve places, please send an e-mail to me at:.

If you don’t receive a reply within 72 hours, please resend or phone.

If you do not have access to e-mail, please call me at 613 347 1655. The preferred way of contact is by e-mail, please.

The trip is open to BPQ members and friends who accompany them.
