Learning about Birds

An important priority of Bird Protection Quebec is to increase birding knowledge, skills and enjoyment and encourage interest in birding.

We offer programs about birds and nature conservation activities. Presentations are offered on:

  • Bird Identification
  • Common Backyard Birds
  • Waterfowl
  • Raptors
  • Migration, for example marvels of Snow Geese
  • Birds who use nest boxes

Presentations at your school or location on different themes are available. Depending on age and interest, these may include slide shows and lectures, hands-on projects, preparation for Guide and Scout badges and making bird feeders. If necessary, we can arrange to host your group at the Morgan Arboretum. An additional charge will apply.

Working with other groups

Through our grants program we are supporting two groups in the area who have educational projects relevant to our core interests.

  • A multi-year partnership with Le Nichoir that will provide an ambitious travelling schools educational program that works with the schools’ curriculum to educate children about the importance of birds and conservation
  • Meeting the annual stipend for a Scouts Canada wildlife educator north of Montreal

Interactive Birding Program

Le-Nichoir_cutBird Protection Quebec’s education committee is proud to be a sponsor of Le Nichoir’s interactive birding program for children aged 8 to 12. The program takes a close look at wild bird conservation and bird species commonly seen in the backyard. The programs are available in both English and French.

“Bird Adaptations: Custom-made for Habitat” lets children use prepared specimens, and other tools to understand how wild birds’ beaks, feet, and wing shapes are adapted to their habitat and diet.

To learn more about these programs email Le Nichoir at education@lenichoir.org or call 450-458-2809
