Calling all bird enthusiasts
One of Canada’s oldest birding groups, Bird Protection Quebec offers activities such as weekly field trips, special events for beginner birders, and a monthly lecture series by experts in their fields. What makes us different? We actively support bird protection and habitat conservation through land ownership, research and education funding, and promotion of participatory science projects.
So, if you would like to become part of an open and encouraging community of fellow enthusiasts that proactively works for Quebec’s birds, join us today!
Upcoming Activities
Our pre-scheduled guided field trips will restart in September, and our monthly meetings will return in October.
During the summer months, we offer our “Summer Series of Birding” outings most Saturday mornings from the end of June until the end of August. The destination of these outings is only determined a few days before, allowing the trip guide to take advantage of any special sightings or scout new locations, while also taking the weather into account. Complete details are announced through our eNews Bulletin, and the Bird Protection Quebec Facebook page
Injured bird inquiries
It takes specialized knowledge to determine if an injured or seemingly abandoned bird needs help. With the best of intentions, too many birds, particularly babies, are rescued when in fact they didn’t need to be. Le Nichoir, a federally and provincially licensed wild bird rehabilitation centre, is an excellent source of information on when and how to take action.
Wish more was being done to protect your local birds?
As a pioneer in the acquisition of property for conservation purposes, Bird Protection Quebec has been protecting habitat in this province for over six decades. In fact, our first sanctuary was purchased in 1937! Management of land we own or co-own, along with our research and educational grant program, represents our largest annual expenditure. And, since we are a predominantly volunteer-run organization, all funds we receive through either membership fees or donations go entirely towards supporting these and other initiatives.
